Was happy to have watched it in the local pub for the comedy own goal at least, it provided at least 5mins of gallows humour, the fact they proceeded to ship another goal soon afterwards was very Scotland though....
Had a lot of people say, "it could have been worse, could have been 7-1", after the game, glad we can always look on the bright side.
Happy Birthday Duncan! Glad Italy got the win for you.
I think Italy showed some good things, after the early mistake the 1st half performance was good and it should probably have been more than 2-1. There was some sloppiness in the 2nd half though, even if a limited Albania side didn't threaten too much.
I remember the day they played in 1990 I was at the Taste of Chicago with my then fiance and was taping the game to watch when I got home. But I walked by the Spanish language booth at the festival and the guy said in Spanish some stuff then I heard real quick "Mundial- Irlanda zero, Italia uno" I started shouting with joy and Sherry just looked at me and I had to explain what I heard. Watched it still when I got home.
On Italy - Yep, they recovered really well after the kind of start no-one predicted..... Will be interesting to see how Scamacca's involvement in the tournament develops. Strikers will always be judged by their goal tally, but I thought he was really good with his back to goal, and linked up well with Chiesa, Frattesi and Pellegrini in and around the box (who all have a major goal threat). If France can win tournaments with Giroud being essential to their play, but not scoring many goals, perhaps Italy can do something similar?
Interesting reading Spalletti's comments about him and Chiesa needing time during games to recover after high intensity sprints (like Cheetah's after chasing down a gazelle!). It's funny how we mostly forget that footballers have very difficult athletic make-ups. Chiesa and Scamacca are more akin to Usain Bolt, where Cristante (who regularly covers more ground than most) is definitely more Mo Farah (without the sprint finish....)!
On England - Obviously I paid attention to the wrong half, thought they were home and hosed after an impressive first 45mins, so pretty much ignored 2nd half...sounds like I might have enjoyed it more!
Yesterday's games were very interesting. Romania looked better than the pre-tournament predictions suggested, they worked hard and looked organised. Slovakia played well too, they were quite adventurous, and Belgium still don't look right despite some new personnel and a change of coach. Austria made things difficult for France without looking particularly creative, France probably should have scored one more.
